082008_convert_01.jpgIf space is a premium, whether it is in your home or office, the Convertible Compact Desk might help you use your space more efficiently. This canny piece of furniture converts from a 30" cabinet into a 55" desk, adding space to work and to live.

I'd be all over it if it came in white.

The only problem with expandable design is that you need to allow room for the expanded size, so on a day-to-day regular use basis, it doesn't really save any space at all. Something like this would be great for occasional use: perfect place for your kid to do his/her homework on the weeks you have visitation, for example.

This isn't for saving space, it's for looks. Some people need a desk but don't have a separate area for a home office. It's not easy to comfortably incorporate a "full sized" office desk into the living room or bedroom decor.

I agree with illegal danish. I could definitely see this working in my bedroom for when I need to do some with without it looking like a work space when I'm not using it. It is a little pricey, but it definitely has more storage, a better look and I'm sure better quality than the Ikea desk posted above. I love the filing cabinet hidden away in the bottom drawer.
