Check out that entertainment center up above. Looks like something you'd find offered at one of numerous stylish furnishing retailers...except this one was created in DIY fashion! AT reader aud-o-matic's creation might be our favourite DIY home entertainment furniture piece since Ben's credenza from a past ATLA house tour. Take a peek below at aud-o-matic's project, step by step (NKOTB style!)...

After adding the U-channel for the acrylic sliding doors.

I like the media center but, I never understood two televisions next to each other. Even if you're only using one at a time, the other one seems like it would be so distracting.

I was hoping he'd show more of how he finished it; from the small pix, it looks like he's got a glossy finish over the plywood.

very confused by the 2 tvs

johan.... it's either a quality paint job... or a glued on laminate. that would be my guess??
but you're right, from the photos it's really hard to tell.
...and two tvs? so you can watch multiple sporting events at one time!! multitasking people. multitasking!! ;)

if you have to watch 2 tvs at the same time, you have a serious problem

I must have a serious problem then, because I've always wanted two TVs. I agree with e_prime: great for when you (or you and your significant other) want to watch two games at the same time. Or when you want to watch some program and just keep tabs on a game going on. I dunno... I"m kind of a NBA nut, I guess.

Where did he get the plexiglass and casters?

I have two tv's but they're in different rooms. It's important to have two, to keep the peace in the household.
Also, Wireless headphones for one set should also be included.
A friend told me he used to play games in the Picture-in-Picture screen while his wife watched a show in the main screen area, but there's no way my cursing (every time I get killed in Call of Duty) is going to go over well, during Oprah. But at least the tv's match.

Hi. Just to clarify a couple things:
1. aud-o-matic (hey! that's me) = she, not he
2. Regarding the two TVs: I included a short explanation about them in another AT post because I knew people might be baffled/disgusted, but basically...my girlfriend and I play a lot of co-op video games (geeks? yes, I know), so we have two TVs and needed a long unit to hold both along with all of our consoles, which was the main reason I wanted to build my own entertainment center. I also wanted something on coasters for easy cord access and management. Surprisingly, we actually don't watch that much TV. We do, however, play a lot of Halo 3 (and the like) and wholeheartedly embrace the shame with which that comes.

@Matt M.
I purchased and had the acrylic custom cut at a plastic fabrication store in El Monte (LA area) called Paragon Plastics. If you search for "plastics" using Google/Yellow Pages, you should be able to find something local.
The coasters are from Home Depot.

@johan
I primered the wood and then used a couple coats of standard semi-glossy interior paint to finish it.
